i'm jewish by choice. i've spent time in both reform and orthodox congregations. i presently don't attend a synagogue, but miss it, and enjoy talking to my jewish friends online and via zoom. tikkun olam is very central to my ethics.

so how did i become a jew? i grew up in a fundamentalist christian home, but as an adult in my late 20's, converted to catholicism.

i was participating in a religion forum, where i made a lot of jewish friends. one day i was saying how i became a catholic because i wanted to get at the root of my faith, that i wanted to step back to the original real deal. one of my jewish friends said to me, "take one more step back." i laughed, but it also got under my skin...

my journey was a very long one. it was very hard and painful losing jesus. but quite honestly, i am soooo much more comfortable with emphasizing deeds over creeds.

i guess i consider myself an "agnostic theist." by that i mean that we cannot prove nor disprove god, either with science, or with reason (both of which i highly value). so what do i do? in the absence of evidence, i go with my intuition. i realize intuition is not perfect, but honestly, when i look at the awe of the night sky, or the immensity of a sequoia tree, or the miracle of a child being born, my heart simply says, god.
