I wouldnt know if I'm truly Jewish.. Not because I'm a convert but because Cristobal Colon was Jewish and he brought to the Island (Puerto Rico) all other Jewish who where in jail for not converting to the Catholic Church. The thing is that these people were not allowed to practice, they could only do it in they're homes. So as you could understand we lost the jewish roots, not only because they hid they're names but because time vanished the traditions. So if I truly where to be Jewish I would need to have a DNA test. I would like to do it. I will, someday. It won't matter if I am or not, because of what I learned so far... I believe in that Yeshua was and is our Mesiah and that all the rules in the Torah must be kept. Although is not easy. lol Hashem is always there for us, so he will help us. More than ever knowing that we lost our roots and were desperately trying to understand....
and .. so on..

`I think whats basically agreed on is if your mothers Jewish than you are..other than that one has to convert...under an Orthodox Rabbi, of course or it wont count anywhere.

`To me, "truly Jewish" is all things Jewish. It is also true that Orthodox Judaism only reconize their rules for conversion. However, the Sages and Rabbis in their wisdom closed the Talmud in ambiguity for the generations to follow. Knowing almost prophetically that the Diaspora will leave a lot of us wondering. I therefore understand your question. Since I am a descendant of Beta-Israel who through the blessing of HaShem, was provided with Operation Solomon to rescue and repatriate thousands of Ethiopian Jews to Isreal. Yet we American descendants of Beta Israel was left wondering. My wondering was put to rest, not by DNA (which were of Kohanin haplotype) nor by my father's name (which was Levonim which he Americanized to Levon) but by conversion; I needed to learn what it was to be "truly Jewish". I studied both Orthodox and Conservative, and completed milah and mikvah according to Orthodox standards, so when I am ready to make aliyah, I am assured that Eretz Israel is as much my home as any other Jew. So thank our fathers of blessed memory, that should you find your answer to be "truly Jewish" and you are ready you too will be welcomed home... May your search be blessed. Shalom
